Lakones is a small traditional village high above Paleokastritsa, about 182 m above sea level, on the northwest coast of Corfu.
It is about 25 km from Corfu Town, approximately the same distance as Paleokastritsa itself, and takes around 40 minutes to reach by car.
The population of Lakones village is slightly over 300 people.
The village is built high on the slopes above the coast, and thanks to its elevated position, it has one of the most spectacular views in Corfu.
From the Bella Vista viewpoint in Lakones, you can look down over Paleokastritsa and see the iconic view of turquoise bays, lush green headlands and rocky islets.

Lakones is known not only for its views, but also for its traditional character.
Stone houses, narrow lanes and old Corfiot architecture give the village a strongly contrasting atmosphere to the modern, developed Paleokastritsa coastal resort below.
And, of course, there is the traditional central square of the village, with its kafenio and a couple of small grocery shops.
Exploring Lakones takes about an hour, after which you can enjoy a drink with some traditional food or snacks.
Food and Local Flavours
Just next to the viewpoint, there is Dolce Café, a local family business specialising in handmade ice cream, pastries and sweets.
The café is a great place to stop for coffee and something sweet while enjoying the panoramic view.
In the café, you can try many of their fresh desserts, served in generous portions and topped with local ingredients such as kumquat or Corfu honey.
For an even more local stop, there is Bakalokafenio – Michalas Kostas.
The place combines a bakery and small shop selling fresh bread, pastries, homemade sweets and local products with a café and a terrace overlooking Paleokastritsa.
How to Get to Lakones
The easiest way to reach Lakones is by car.
The road goes steeply from Paleokastritsa through the hills, and the views become more impressive as you gain altitude.
There is no regular bus service directly to the village.
The Green Bus A9 connects Corfu Town with Paleokastritsa, but Lakones is about 6 km uphill from the coastal resort.
So, hypothetically, you can use the bus, but practically, walking uphill along the road, with no pedestrian path, especially in the heat, may be not only uncomfortable but dangerous.
Lakones is easiest to visit by car, and it makes a great addition to a beach day in Paleokastritsa in summer.
In the cooler months, the village also makes a lovely stop when exploring other attractions in northwest Corfu, such as Krini or Angelokastro.
